T. Hardy Morris – Audition Tapes
Dangerbird Records
★★★ (out of 5 stars)
As Dead Confederate continues to push Southern rock forward, frontman T. Hardy Morris has been doing even more on an extracurricular basis with supergroup Diamond Rugs and, now, solo work too. Unlike his main band’s restless burn, his debut LP is in a more settled, clarified and soulful place. Though contemporary in slant, his music’s draped in an openly down-home twang. It’s a raw, dingy brand of country with ample curls of steel guitar. While it’s not as big, deep and prime-time as Dead Confederate, it’s a fine solo outing that begins to show the amplitude of an immense talent.
