In the past few years, Orlando’s been fortunate enough to spend one night each December with Dade County doom-pop denizens Torche. Having just released a new LP this year – and dealing with newest bandmate Andrew Elstner’s treatment after a bat pissed in his eye – Torche has been firing on all cylinders, even while adjusting in favor of a poppier delivery. With support provided by Holly Hunt, another Miami menace that specializes in drone demolition, this year’s showing stands out. The bands have a special, intimate relationship with one another, and have contributed to the unity between Orlando and Miami’s music communities. Hunt’s newest effort, recorded this year, was engineered with Torche bassist Jon Nuñez. Gavin Perry, Hunt’s galvanizing guitar giant, claims Nuñez “knows how to keep the vibe positive and relaxed,” and drummer Betty Monteavaro agrees that his sound is “the massivest.” Expect this show to exceed expectations, with deafening synergy conjured by both in their digestible heaviness. – Jared Oates Haggard
