Named for lyrics from the soundtrack of O Brother Where Art Thou, the Devil Makes Three nobly carry on the tradition of that original stringy country sound that moviegoers went nuts for back in 2000, but you’ll quickly pick up on their edgier lyrics and grittier delivery. While it’s not unusual for a country and blues band to pepper their music with punk influences, what the Devil Makes Three accomplish is at once fresh and old: a string band that dances free from percussion. The acoustic trio is comprised of two guitarists and a string bassist, and the vibe is exactly what you’d expect from a modern-day jug band. So, grab a partner and spin her ’round, or if you are flying solo currently, we’re pretty sure the singer said something about giving a PowerPoint presentation about some girl he wants to do. Should be a hootenanny good time! – Ashley Belanger
