Review - Peace Is Tough

Artist: Terranova

This is the second full-length album by Berlin techno trio Terranova and, although there are five new tracks appended to the six reworked cuts from their debut, there's really nothing "new." Most of the accompanying vocals are in Terranova's native German, but those recorded in English sound (sadly) as if they could have been written by a sixth-grader. For instance, "Addict," sung by the performance artist Jake, starts off quite well with the chant, "It hurts to be cool," but ends with a repeated (out of the blue), "I really need a fuck": profanity just for the sake of profanity, the placement of which contradicts the whole primary statement of Jake being "cool." If the audience is a throng of drunken clubbers, who really cares? But Terranova is smarter than that, and although repetitiveness is part of the techno genre, they could have put a little more complexity and variation into "Peace Is Tough," and perhaps even spent a little more time on production.
