As the founding members of Florida's former goth-near-misses Rosewater Elizabeth, Jeremy Wilkins and Melissa Mileski swirled about trying to find pleasure in the pain of love. Suitably art-schooled, they're now in Atlanta in their new incarnation, Underwater (joined by Matthew Jeanes on keyboards and Alec Irvin on drums).

The project surfaces with the similarly fatigued "I Could Lose." Appropriately drenched in layered acoustics and muted wails, the record's languorous tone rings a bit precious, a bit heavy in process (famed Nine Inch Nails' programmer Chris Vrenna handled production). The results vary from ethereal and otherworldly, to something as sweet as yesterday's patchouli.
