The latest chapter of wondrous music monthly the In-Between Series featured noted underground artist D003Y (a.k.a. D003Y D3C1MAL) and video artist Broken Machine Films (Oct. 12, Gallery at Avalon Island), a pair of true analog believers.

Under the moniker D003Y, Orlando musician Jeffrey Johnson is known as an electronic artist, but he also has some indie-rock cred from playing in worthy bands like the Dark Sixties and Join Hands. With it, he blended organic and synthetic sounds without even a blink. Through live loop-layering, he stitched full songs by himself from rhythmic strands that travel in liquid lines and bound the whole quilt together with pretty guitar work. Though not the most accomplished or studied set heard here, it was anything but the dreaded ordinary. And like he did in Film Speak with Maximino’s Gerald Perez, Joshua Rogers of Broken Machine Films helped make it a production with his live-mixed, live-tweaked visual accompaniment.
