Review - Most Every Night

Artist: Lying in States

Lying In States plies a strangely beguiling concoction of brawny angularity, brainy dreaminess and organic twitchiness. Coming from Chicago, any of those three could be expected from a band, but it's rare that a band (from anywhere) could breathlessly blend such disparate elements. But on LIS's debut album, the five-piece has a little something for everybody, wrapped up in an album that's surprisingly cohesive. Few bands could get away with following up a sublime acoustic ballad like "We" with a herky-jerky rocker like "Tackle Me On Fire," but Lying in States pulls it off beautifully.
