Sandwich some midday culture

Cheap, cultural and delicious, the fall Bach's Lunch series is now under way every Thursday at the Cathedral Church of Saint Luke (130 N. Magnolia Ave., 849-0680), through Nov. 19.

The free portion of the program begins at noon with a half-hour concert by artists ranging from Orlando Swing Band (Oct. 1) to Orlando Regional Police Bagpipe Band (Oct. 22) and the Newark (Vermont) Balkan Chorus (Nov. 12). At 12:30 p.m. sharp, it's chow time, courtesy of John Michael Catering (one of the stand-out vendors from the 1998 Orlando International Fringe Festival).

Lunch costs $5, and includes a main dish such as baked vegetable ziti, chicken teriyaki or beef stroganoff, and side items such as Caesar salad or dill potato salad. For dessert, there's chocolate-chip and oatmeal-raisin cookies.
