Kayak Fishing Boondoggle Festival weekend has arrived!

Kayak Fishing Boondoggle | 2 p.m. Friday Oct. 10-1 p.m. Monday Oct. 13 | Kars Park, E. Hall Road, Merritt Island | $30-$75 | kayakfishingboondoggle.com

We're not exactly sure what a "boondoggle" is, but it sounds super exciting, right?

This ambitious two-day fest invites attendees to camp out for three whole nights on Merritt Island to fish to their heart's content.

The trout and redfish fishing in the Island's NMZ (No Motor Zone) is world-class, with plenty of islands, sandbars, oyster beds and creeks to cast out a line. Camping will be at Kars Park which is in the Southern portion of the Kennedy Space Center, just off of State Road 3 with ramp access to the Banana River.

This isn't just for pros either, as the fest will provide plenty of family-friendly activities where attendees can learn about kayak fishing, paddling and more.

The weekend kicks off at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, and goes strong all weekend til Monday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. Registered campers will have a chance to win a 2014 Native Watercraft Ultimate FX 12, valued at $1,449. Over 300 Boondogglers attended last year's event, so be sure to reserve your camping space nice and early.

Check out their event website for all of the rules and regulations and to register for a fun weekend on the Space Coast.
