Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz, an elected official who once filed a bill based on a conspiracy theory he saw on Reddit, appeared on CNN last night to argue that some missing FBI text messages are the biggest "coincidence since the Immaculate Conception."“If you’re going to make an analogy at least know what you’re talking about.” Oof. As you can see in the clip above, host Chris Cuomo immediately changes the topic from secret memos to how basic analogies work.
"I was making a point that this is an absurd coincidence," said Gaetz. Cuomo then leans on Gaetz, asking him what exactly he thinks the Immaculate Conception is. "Where is the analogy, that's what I don't understand. What do you think happened with the Immaculate Conception?" asks Cuomo.
Cuomo, visibly annoyed, argues back, "It was Mary's conception. It was the mother's conception without original sin. It was not the conception of Jesus. Facts matter, Congressman. If you're going to make an analogy, at least know what you're talking about."
So to recap: Gaetz is just saying that missing texts between FBI special agent Peter Strzok and lawyer Lisa Page are like the birth of Jesus or something, and that the birth of Jesus is a coincidence … like text messages, folks.
On a related note, when Gaetz isn't eating his shoe on CNN, he's arguing with former talk show host Montel Williams about who is more respected on television.
We live in hell.I stand corrected Montel. You used your show to have phony psychics spew about real kidnappings. Classy stuff. What were you saying again about the quality of my viewpoints on TV? https://t.co/pfN0VYH6TH
