The Washington Post reports the charities that left in the five days after Trump's comments include the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts; the American Red Cross; the Ryan Licht Sang Bipolar Foundation; the Salvation Army; Morselife; Hearing the Ovarian Cancer Whisper; the American Cancer Society; American Friends of Magen David Adom; Big Dog Ranch Rescue; Leaders in Furthering Education; the Palm Beach Zoo; the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach; the Susan G. Komen breast cancer charity; and the Autism Project of Palm Beach County. The Post reports charity galas can pay up to $275,000 to use the ballroom for a single night, and some have reportedly raised $1.5 million during these events.
After a horrific rally of white supremacists in Charlottesville where three people were killed, Trump placed blame on both sides for the violence, including anti-racist protesters.
The Post reports the Mar-a-Lago's highest-paying events, galas by the Palm Beach Police Foundation and the Palm Beach County Republican Party, are still continuing. But the newspaper estimates the cancellations could cost the Trump Organization $1.1 million in total, with rental fees ranging from $24,000 to $276,000.
"These losses could reduce the club’s revenue by hundreds of thousands of dollars by each event, and deny President Trump his dual role as president and host to the island’s partying elite," Post reporters Drew Harwell and David A. Fahrenthold write. "If he returns to the club for weekends next winter, the president could often find its grand ballrooms quiet and empty."
