Brew ha-ha

Saying that if there is good coffee in Tallahassee, "I haven't found it," last week Gov. Jeb "Java Jibe" Bush called in the St. Petersburg Times for the establishment of "a good Starbucks franchise," effectively dissing Barnie's -- Orlando's own coffee and tea chain. Orange County Democratic Party chairman Doug Head wasted no time in upbraiding the governor, dispatching an offer to escort Bush to any of the more than 50 Barnie's locations and helpfully pointing out that the Tallahassee Barnie's is located in Governor's Square Mall.

"It is beyond me why he should be flacking for ... a company located in Seattle," Head said. "I'm sending him a package of Barnie's Coffee today so he can learn what kind of entrepreneurs we have in Central Florida. I'll also ask Phil Jones, president of Barnie's, to become the official purveyor of coffee to the governor of Florida."

Head didn't say so, and it may not amount to a hill of beans, but according to elections records, Jones and his wife donated $300 to Buddy MacKay's campaign.
