As a door closes on one no-wave powerhouse (
Obliterati), so a door opens on another – just down the street, in fact. Las Vegas is not known for its robust underground, so for Spring Breeding to hail from there is a bit of a shocker. Even more shocking is the electrical ferocity and urgency of this quartet’s attack. A shuffling but insistent groove anchors an otherwise chaotic explosion of guitars and keyboards, and we’re happy to detect a Mark E. Smith tinge to the vocals. Make sure to check out the openers too, including Tampa’s Vallum, in our estimation one of the most creative noise musicians in Florida. Their use of an amplified and distorted Slinky (yes, the toy) at International Noise Conference in Miami blew our goddamn minds.
