The reason that they're baking in the heat is because of this year's mammoth list of RSD exclusive releases - currently numbering around 400(!) different items - with platters from everyone from Cecil Taylor to Robyn to Adrenalin O.D. on offer, just in limited, coveted quantities. (And of course, the caveat that not every store will have every item.)

The line at Park Ave CDs at 4 pm on Friday, April 12
In addition to all the exclusive wax, several area stores are putting on some special events during the day as sort of a thank-you to the discerning physical-media fan:
And the aforementioned Park Ave CDs has unintentionally already kicked off their Record Store Day wildness (see above), but the real fun starts later tonight (*ahem* 3:30 a.m.) with a parking lot screening of a selection of music documentaries for the hale and hardy holding their spots in line overnight. During the day there will be DJs spinning in the shop while comedian Larry Fulford returns to town to MC, plus giveaways, food and drink pop-ups, and surely much more. (We'd be remiss if we didn't mention that their neighbors Redlight Redlight will be serving an RSD-themed beer. Don't ask, just drink.)
