There’s definitely plugged-in potential for pop ruckus as a founding father of California punk plays a live set in one of our humble hometown dives. Punk rock veteran Kepi Ghoulie proves to be in it for the long haul, as he bounces around the country this summer and lands in Orlando just long enough for a romp and rollick. As a former frontman of the Groovie Ghoulies, Kepi mastered the art of infectious, feel-good anthems with lyrics simple enough to sustain singalongs. Listen to “Rock N Roll Shark” for a perfect specimen of both Kepi’s style and principle – especially when he sings, “I gotta keep swimming, I gotta keep winning!” The lineup is no boys club, though, with Orlando ladies Wet Nurse and touring femmes Dog Party on the bill. Wet Nurse sustains the pace with their prescription for fast garage rock, while Dog Party counters with angsty refrains. Bonus: Equally catchy showmates the Caffiends never cease their pop-punk vigor
or their coffee references, for that matter. – Billy Table
