Black Pussy brings stoner rock and a controversial name to Will's Pub

Yes, Black Pussy is a terrible name for a band made up of long-haired white dudes. There’s been enough uproar over their name to inspire a petition on Change.org calling for them to change it and for venues to cancel their shows. But their inspiration for the name, the original title of the Rolling Stones’ 1971 hit “Brown Sugar,” fits their tongue-in-cheek aesthetic pretty well. Not so much classic rock revivalists as stoner rock savants, the guys look like extras from Almost Famous but sound like they’ve been partying in the desert with Josh Homme. Expect fuzzed-out guitars, reverb-drenched vocals and some killer solos as they play tracks from their newest LP, Magic Mustache.

BLACK PUSSY with Junior Bruce, Secret Tracers | 9 p.m. Friday, March 20 | Will’s Pub, 1042 N. Mills Ave. | willspub.org | $5-$7
