After more than 25 years of existence, Nomeansno is still something of poorly kept punk rock secret. Occasionally making it into the margins of Canadian punk discussions somewhere after D.O.A. and SNFU but before the Dayglo Abortions, the pounding unpredictability of the group's sound has always kept them from being easily classified but quickly elevated Nomeansno to preferred status among those who are clued in. If the notion of the Minutemen driving a bulldozer through a socialist comedy club is appealing, then Nomeansno is the best band you've never heard. Even with so many years of envelope-pushing, the group's resilient dedication to thudding, tempo-testing smartpunk is still in abundant evidence on Ausfahrt. Whether the dark rumble of 'I See A Mansion in the Sky,â?� a goofy, anti-consumerist funk anthem ('Mondo Nihilissimo 2000,â?� with another best-Nomeansno-lyric-ever in the form of 'let's go to Guam and fuck a babyâ?�) or the rolling, melodic attack of 'In Her Eyes,â?� it's an amazing testament to the band's independent resolve that more than 15 years after their classic, subgenre-defining Wrong album, they can still supply satisfying surprises.
