It’s the start of a new King of Wake season, and three-time champ Phil Soven is more than ready. He tweeted back in February: “When there’s work to be done do work. Play once it pays off. We don’t get paid to party... some “pro” athletes fail to realize that.” Soven, who’s the older brother of wakeboarding competitor and MTV co-star Bob Soven, seeks redemption at this week’s Nautique Wake Games by reclaiming the King of Wake title back from Australian boarder Harley Clifford. The Orlando-based Soven brothers may have encountered some distractions last year, what with the debut of their reality TV show, Wake Brothers (no word of a second season) and the unfortunate season-ending injuries incurred by Bob Soven. But this weekend not only sees the younger Soven back in action, more than 200 wakeboarders and wakeskaters jump in behind the new Super Air Nautique G23 wake boat to bust out their sickest tricks and hopefully grab that champion title. Sounds like the party’s about to get started for someone. – Aimee Vitek
