There are few things better than the sweet sangria-esque mixture of local artists, live music, wine and beer, and café grub. Orlando Museum of Art shares this potent concoction at its monthly 1st Thursdays, where the museum is transformed from a place of whispers to a party. This month’s focus is Nihon: Reflections of a Classic Culture, an exhibit composed of works by local artists around the theme of Japanese art – ink drawings, origami, Geisha paintings and handmade swords are expected. Japanese musician Shinichi Suzuki once said, “Art exists for the human species. I think that all of the people who love art, those who teach art, and all of you, should burn with the obligation to save the world.” While it is unlikely that attending this event will make any direct connection to “saving the world” (whatever that means), it can bring together artists and the community, and help facilitate Orlando’s cultural blossoming. Also, the wine selection is fantastic. – Leanna Robinson
