Donald Glover's 'Atlanta' re-created the 'Florida Man' meme in the best way possible

Season Two of the FX drama Atlanta premiered last night, and while the entire episode was a clear indication that this will be another classic season, show creator Donald Glover's vision of the Florida meme was arguably the best part.

In the scene Earn (Glover) casually mentions to Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) that his parents are traveling to Florida. "Just make sure you tell ’em to watch out for Florida Man," warns Darius. Earn asks, "What’s Florida Man?"
Darius explains that Florida Man is a ubiquitous criminal known for abnormal crimes. "Think of him as an alt-right Johnny Appleseed," he says. "That’s why headlines always say 'Florida Man.'" The scene then cuts to a horror-like montage of "Florida Man" headlines, like "Florida Man shoots an unarmed black teenager," "Florida Man eats a man's face off" and "Florida man beats a flamingo to death."

Glover actually gave a little bit of background to The New Yorker about the scene. "It was important to me that we see him shooting an unarmed black teen first, that you get the sting of that before we see him beating a flamingo to death, which is just funny."
