HEY, IT'S A FEEL GOOD AFTERNOON CONFERENCE CALL WITH TEAM OBAMA! WANNA READ ALONG? HERE GOES!
3:08 p.m.: Florida Congressman Ted Deutch is highlighting Romney's difficulties after accidentally getting dropped from the call. "Short term gain over thoughtful leadership for the long term," "neglecting to do the math," "extending Bush tax cuts." Adds up to $5 trillion "whether Mitt Romney likes it or not." Mitt Romney's idea that his Medicare plan is not going to hurt seniors is "just not true." OK, this is basically the same fact checking we've all been hearing and doing every hour since Debategate.
Remember, voter registration deadline is tomorrow!
3:12 p.m.: OFA national communications director Brent Colburn is giving big ups to the ground game of the Obama camp. Voter registration in Florida has been up 32 percent compared to Republicans. More than 10,000 voters on Thursday alone! More than 100 offices throughout the state. 700 staging locations to GOTV are coming! More debate parties than Romney, suckers. DEBATE PARTIES WERE REALLY DEPRESSING, THO!
3:14 p.m.: First question is from Adam Smith. Republicans have always had an advantage on absentee ballots and Romney is still saying that that is going to save him. Colburn says "we're doing well on absentees, better than in the past." Keep trying to "bank those votes," but not giving up too much on the ground game, because, well, secrets.
3:16 p.m.: William March is asking a question about Romney moving ahead in Florida – it's a tie now, according to Real Clear Politics – so will that last? Colburn is going macro on polls "moving up and down" and "shaking out" in the next few days. Remember those Friday jobs numbers! "The race will be tight all the way to the finish. We also have every indication that we're going to win on Nov. 6." Deutch chimes in: "You can't lose sight of the discussions that are taking place on the ground." He's reminding us the Romney is a big liar whose only "details" are the words that haphazardly fall out of his pursed lips. (My words, not his). But Deutch is pretty pissed about the lying, appares. LOTS OF TALK ABOUT MEDICARE. Old people are important in Florida, you know.
3:20 p.m.: We missed this guy's name because he had to clear his throat. Anything specifically we'll be watching in the next few weeks before the election? You know, like voter suppression and voter fraud??? Colburn is aware, and is doing everything "straight" and "according to the rulebook."
3:21 p.m.: Somebody British named David Adams wants to know how OFA is going to mobilize "unlikely voters," because they love Obama according to polling. Colburn is making the inclusive speech, though he admits that campaign "resources" are "limited." So volunteers and neighborhood-based groundgame. Don't just talk to the choir, Dems. Go out and find yourself some lazy Republicans, etc. "If we continue to build off of the progress we've seen over the past four years ... or if we continue to go backward" via Romney. ECONOMIC HOLE! DRINK!
3:24 p.m.: Sometimes liveblogging is a drag. The call is over because NOBODY HAS ANY QUESTIONS ANYMORE. There is not a journalist in the world (with fact checkers) who is undecided at this point, so there's no room for silly questions about boxers or briefs. THIS IS IMPORTANT. This call, however, was pretty lame. The takeaway: Tomorrow is the last day to register, Dems are doing great at the ground game, Romney is a big old liar who is lying big lies about Medicare and the ACA, nobody is terribly concerned because Biden is going to save everything when he humps Paul Ryan on stage later this week. I didn't get to ask a question because a.) I didn't have one; everything is pretty apparent and b.) I was too busy typing this. Happy Monday!
