The famously chaste Michael Douglas reaches deep into his craft to portray a bigamist in a progressively preposterous Beltway thriller he'll one day remember as only a slightly superior career option to Basic Instinct 2. Douglas' Pete Garrison is a Secret Service agent who once took a bullet for Reagan but is now risking everything by having a steamy affair with the First Lady (no, not Laura Bush – Kim ferchrissakes Basinger)! And if that's not enough of a strain on your credulity muscles, he's also Suspect No. 1 in a plot to off the president that's festering elsewhere within the heart of the old man's protection team. More pessimistic about our homeland security than 1,000 Seymour Hersh articles, this marathon of dramatic convenience teaches us that a wanted man can easily elude the Secret Service by variously: a) taking off his jacket; and b) slipping out the back door. Looks like our government should never have declassified the lyrics to "Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover," which apparently rival The Anarchist Cookbook as an outlaw manifesto.
