The tiresomely provocative Spike Lee's latest scattershot screed is actually worthy topical drama for the first 20 minutes or so, with pharmaceuticals executive Jack Armstrong (Anthony Mackie) taking the heat for his company's Enron-like collapse. But when our cash-strapped hero decides to pay the bills by studding himself out to a bunch of cartoon lesbians in need of impregnation, She Hate Me swiftly becomes yet another showcase for Lee's boundless misogyny, bigotry and lack of focus. There's something in here to offend humans of any background or predilection, all of it unleavened by the humor or storytelling skill that might make it halfway palatable. The big question is no longer what's eating Lee for years, his incompetence has failed to obscure the simple fact that he's 'round-the-bend insane. But just what set of masochistic moneymen keeps letting him make movies? Huh?
