This holiday season, you can drop your spare change in the Salvation Army bell-ringer’s tin bucket and feel like you’ve done your part to help the less fortunate. But where is that money going? Does it stay in your community? How does it get spent? Damn if we know. But we do know how the money and other donations gathered at the Will’s Pub Toy Drive are going to be used. Pay your $5 cover charge at the door and the money will help one of 15 families with young children living in the Parramore area who could use some help making ends meet. Local guitarist/songwriter Roger Docking (you might know him from Andy Matchett & the Minks) will play an acoustic set, and if you also bring along a $10 boxed toy to donate, it’ll be donated as a Christmas gift to one of the kids this toy drive is helping. And to sweeten the deal, Will’s Pub will also give you two free Terrapin beers for your generosity. So you spend a grand total of $15, get two craft beers and some live music out of the deal, and you help a kid have a Merry Christmas. Not even Scrooge could bah-humbug that. – Erin Sullivan
