Opening in Orlando – October 26th, 2012

Chasing Mavericks – Directors Michael Apted and Curtis Hanson team up to tell the true-life story of surfer Jay Moriarity (Jonny Weston), who developed a close bond with older legend Frosty Hesson (Gerard Butler) while training to ride one of the world’s biggest waves. Moriarity ultimately drowned while still in his early 20s -- and if you expect me to go for the joke here, you’re one sick and sadly mistaken bastard, Moondoggie. (PG [youtube jh09vEGNrXc] Cloud Atlas – The Wachowski brothers – Shit! I can’t get out of the habit of saying that – the Wachowski sibs team up with Run Lola Run’s Tom Tykwer to adapt David Mitchell’s sprawling novel of lives interconnected across time. You gotta give everybody involved points for ambition; it seems like the very least we can expect is one of the most interesting failures in years. Then again – seen Heaven? (R) [youtube pQFAPeaJOf8] Fun Size – A missing kid brother on Halloween night spells all manner of trouble for a high-school senior (Victoria Justice) in a romp aimed squarely at young viewers who who weren’t  even swimming furiously toward a tear in a prophylactic when Adventures in Babysitting came out. Quelle coincidence: Elisabeth Shue is in Chasing Mavericks, making for either handy remedial learning or a cautionary tale, depending on your perspective.
