Movie: Marci X

Our Rating: 1.50

God, whatever happened to Paul Rudnick? "IsnÃ?t She Great" bit a big one, and his New Yorker riff on Michael OvitzÃ?s Ã?gay mafiaÃ? comment was just plain lazy. Now we have "Marci X," a tired wanna-be-"Pygmalion" that casts Lisa Kudrow as a Jewish-American princess trying to enlighten a loutish rapper (Damon Wayans). A few of the shopaholic barbs are decent Rudnick, but the plot is lame, Kudrow looks worn out, and director Richard Benjamin hasnÃ?t prevented Wayans from turning in his squirreliest, most self-defeating performance ever. A brief bit about a celibate boy band scores big; the rest is just noise.
