The digital horizon comes into tighter focus this weekend at the Orlando Museum of Art, as the "Art & Technology '97: Beyond the Virtual Edge" expo puts tomorrow's computer arts into the hands of the public.
Though the museum is officially closed until Dec. 13 in the wake of the "Imperial Tombs of China" exhibit, the Associates of the Orlando Museum of Art, a volunteer group that generates and supports membership, will bring the facility to virtual life for this three-day affair. Exhibits of digital art and animation, hands-on music sampling and high-tech performances will be among the state-of-the-art features. A Halloween Masked Ball kicks off the expo on Friday, and a concert by the UCF Synthesizer Ensemble will be the finale on Sunday.
"We have a tremendous local talent base, who ordinarily just sit in their little cyber-caves," says organizer Lynn Finch. "I just want to chemically mix things together and see what it brews up."
