Charlie Minn's documentary '49 Pulses' debuts in Orlando next week

Filmmaker Charlie Minn will be debuting his documentary 49 Pulses at Orlando Fashion Square Mall theater on Friday, Jan. 26.

The film looks back on the 2016 mass shooting at the gay nightclub Pulse where a gunman killed 49 people and injured at least 68 people. Minn has focused his documentary on the testimonies of survivors, victims' family members and police recordings.

"My passion is to make a documentary about the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting in order to honor the victims," Minn said in an email. "I am fully aware of the sensitivity surrounding the tragedy and would never make such a movie unless it was to pay tribute to the victims by telling their stories of humanity and heroism. … My goals are to inform, educate and raise awareness for innocent victims stories that often gets horribly overlooked because of the attention given to the killer."

Minn will appear at the Orlando Public Library (101 E. Central Blvd.) at 6:15 on Wednesday, Jan. 24, to discuss his filmmaking process. On Jan. 28, 49 Pulses will be available via Hoopla Digital. Orange County Public Library System card-holders can stream Minn's films after downloading the free Hoopla app. First responder Omar Delgado and Pulse survivor Orlando Torres will also be present.

Minn's last documentary, 77 Minutes, reviewed the 1984 mass shooting inside a McDonald's in San Diego. He has already begun work documenting last year's Las Vegas shootings.
