It looks like Orange County finally may get its public-access cable channel. The county commission passed a franchise agreement that leaves open the door and agreed to form a citizens commission to examine public access. Meanwhile, Keith Longmore, who sounded the alarm last month after discovering the county wanted no provisions for public access, has found a local TV station whose owner would convert it to public access -- for $1.2 million a year. Kris Persaud, the owner of Channel 7, which broadcasts ethnic programming in Orlando, says he would continue to broadcast over the air to reach people who don't get cable.
The cable commission will be formed after the election, says Lance Turner, a leader of Citizens for Public Access.
