Both East End Market and the owner of Domu — Sean "Sonny" Nguyen — are keeping mum on details, but we talked to Nguyen and here's what we were able to glean.
For one, domu means "dome" in Japanese. Does that mean the concept is going to be Japanese, or be Japanese-inspired? Nguyen wouldn't say, but he did say that domu is used colloquially for "coming off of the dome" or "whatever comes to mind."
"I want this concept to represent me," Nguyen added, and said that the restaurant will offer a "unique twist" and be "very community-oriented."
Izakaya, perhaps? Who's to say, but one thing is certain: Nguyen doesn't want to follow anyone's rules but his own.
Expect the restaurant to open "sometime in the fall." Until then, you can take a gander at their website and sign up for "exclusive details," says Nguyen.
