What does it cost to mingle with the dead, become one with the spirits and let go of orgiastic tendencies? A lot.

"A Don Post `mask` will go for 10 or 15 grand," says Neil Goldsmith, an Orlando hobbyist latex-smith who runs the website Latex Mask Central (www.latexmaskcentral.com). And for the record, he's not talking about a mask of Post, but a mask by Post, the man who invented the mass market for commercial latex masks.

Goldsmith, who works out of his garage, says collectors are the biggest chunk of the false-face market; even some celebrities are in on the action. He has sold to people from Dustin Diamond to Daniel Roebuck from Lost. And though he doesn't command Don Post money, custom work from Goldsmith is still pricey. "If someone says they want such and such a character, and I sculpt it, mold, paint, etc., it would probably be about $800, because it is a custom commission."

Customers can also request the only copy. "People want authentic," Goldsmith says. "The classics are still the best sellers."

But what about the sexy? On the same night men decide to paint themselves as undead lepers, women often decide that it's about time they wore a thong in public. For a unique twist on the scantily clad nurse or cop, Fairvilla Megastore, 1740 N. Orange Blossom Trail, is bringing in costumes from Los Angeles—based Trashy Lingerie.

Trashy, known for custom costumes decorating celebrity bods, has anointed Fairvilla to be one of only three retailers in Florida to sell their product. For the occasion, the store has set aside a room to be lined with velvet and guarded by a sales associate who will only let in people serious about dropping the cash. Costumes start at $100 and can easily top $1,000 with accessories.

"Everything is sewn and original," says Fairvilla CEO Tom Berger. "`Trashy Lingerie` built a reputation on incredible quality."

"As our world has changed, the boomers and following generations have refused to let go of this holiday," adds Berger. "They want authentic. They want quality."

And they're willing to pay for it.
