If you’ve ever gotten a craving for mushrooms after playing The Last of Us, you’re in luck with this year’s cordyceps-filled Halloween Horror Nights.

With a star-studded lineup of original and IP-themed haunted houses, Universal’s annual fright fest is the destination for horror fans who want to be in a scary movie, TV show or video game.

But don’t forget about the food. This year’s menu is packed with dishes inspired by the houses — from The Last of Us and Stranger Things  Season 4 to Chucky and even the iconic Dr. Oddfellow.

Orlando Weekly was invited out to Horror Nights for its opening-night festivities last week and got to try a dozen different dishes and desserts — all of them available at booths around the park.

Some of the best and most interesting offerings were the Hellfire Club sandwich, the Left Behind Ravioli and (unfortunately) Dr. Oddfellow’s Carn “EVIL” Dog.

The Stranger Things-inspired Hellfire Club features jalapeño cheddar bread stuffed with shaved pork shoulder, crispy potato sticks, spicy mayo, pineapple chutney and Muenster cheese. It’s perfectly greasy and hearty — great for fueling up before facing Vecna in the Stranger Things house.

Find the sandwich at the Stellar Bar in Music Plaza (near Rip Ride Rockit).

The Left Behind Ravioli is pretty standard pasta-and-sauce fare, but elevated with truffle cream, garlic bread and some tempura-fried enoki mushrooms, and by its presentation: It’s served in a collectible FEDRA ration can (perfect for reuse for potted plants).

Find that at the Last of Us booth at Sting Alley in the New York section of the park.

All the other offerings at this booth include some form of edible fungus, too. Well, all except the dessert.

  • Lakeside “Meat” Stew: beef cheek stew with fingerling potatoes, wood ear mushrooms, tempura-fried enoki mushrooms and white rice.
  • FEDRA Ration Bar: Scotcheroo bar with coffee-flavored chocolate, peanut butter and Rice Krispies.
  • Salt Lake City Iced Coffee: brewed coffee, JF Haden’s Espresso Liqueur, Cruzan Light Rum, vanilla bean, smoked sea salt and Hella Smoked bitters.

Then there’s Dr. Oddfellow’s Carn “EVIL” Dog — a fascinating monstrosity that we just had to try for the sake of saying we did it.

It’s a bright red hot dog in a confetti sprinkle bun with Kool-Aid pickles (we think blue), bubblegum mustard and potato sticks. It tastes exactly how you think.

The icon’s signature food offering can be found at his food booth at Gramercy Park along with Sour Apple Pie Funnel Fries.

And there’s plenty more The Last of Us and Stranger Things 4 items to be found throughout the park during HHN.

Also in the Gramercy Park booths are Cordyceps Corndogs (Korean cheese dog with cordyceps, crispy potato sticks, truffle cream sauce and daikon sprouts) and Infected Taters (fried spiralized potato with mushroom emulsion and porcini powder).

Then there’s a Surfer Boy Pizza pop-up with all of Argyle’s favorites.

  • Surfer Boy Hawaiian Pizza: French bread-style pizza with crispy Spam, pineapple chutney, jalapeño, scallions and mozzarella.
  • Surfer Boy Vegan Pizza: made with Gardein sausage crumbles and vegan mozzarella.
  • Yuri’s Favorite: chocolate cake with peanut butter mousse and Reese’s Pieces.
  • Surfer Boy Tropical Dream Punch: Cruzan Rum, orange, pineapple, lime, passion fruit, grapefruit juice, vanilla bean and garnished with a pineapple gummy.

At Chucky’s food booth, the theme is spicy and colorful.

  • Fried ’til the End Chicken: fried popcorn chicken tossed in Nashville hot sauce, drizzled with ranch and topped with scallions and chili threads.
  • Chucky’s Pop-Dead Corn: Flamin’ Hot Cheetos flavored popcorn. You can also get this in a souvenir Chucky bucket, which has glowing eyes.
  • Heart of Damballa: New Amsterdam vodka with guava and lime juice, simple syrup, cucumber and mint syrup, sea salt flakes and edible glitter.

And there are still dozens more food and drink offerings around Universal Studios Florida and CityWalk, including the iconic Pizza Fries and Twisted Taters.

And while Mel’s Die-In is closed for refurbishment this year, there’s a new Peacock’s Halloween Horror Bar set up behind Lombard’s Seafood Grille. Look for David S. Pumpkins while you’re there.
