This rare mid-century Orlando home is a piece of architectural history

A rare mid-century, um, angular (?) home is for sale in the Orlando metropolitan area, for the first time in more than 60 years.

The one-of-a-kind house, located at 220 N. Washington Ave. in Apopka, had been occupied by the original owners' family since 1961. The home was originally designed by James E. Windham III, the Orlando-area architect whose life ended in mystery, as he was found dead in his downtown office in 2000 at the age of 75.

With its unique shape, heavy accents of red wood and expansive glass walls, as well as exterior walls made of coquina rock mined from St. Augustine, the home offers a unique glimpse into architectural history.

There are five bedrooms and four baths spanning the home's 3,484 total square feet. The front entryway brings guests into an open beam courtyard and then a foyer.  Attached to the kitchen is also a covered porch and backyard breezeway.

The home is currently going for
$479,000 and is being sold by John Vick Jr. of V 3 Residential LLC.
