Ethos Vegan Kitchen
Popular veg house lost the cozy lakeside courtyard with the move to Winter Park, but gained in square footage and exposure – not to mention a handsome bar. Meatless comfort staples are the norm, and dishes like sheep’s pie, sausage rolls and Philly cheesesteak sandwiches satisfy. Even calzones with soy cheese are impressive – more so than the desserts. Open daily until 11 p.m.

KrungThep Tea Time
Thai teahouse and sandwich joint forgoes both floral wallpaper and strumming troubadours in favor of a stark, yet soothing, simplicity. While the Siamese cuisine is reduced to sandwiches and salads, don’t underestimate their flavorsome bites. The chicken gra-prow will be on your regular sandwich rotation, as will the marinated beef sammie with tangy and peppery “jaaw sauce,” but if you’re considering getting any of their salads “Thai hot,” best check yourself. Brick toast, like the “ka-ti” with condensed milk, coconut ice cream, honey and crushed peanuts, is a must, as are the plethora of teas, offered hot or cold. Open daily.

Mediterranean Deli
An oasis of authenticity, complete with odd decorations, exhilaratingly exotic smells and hearty but inexpensive meals. You’ll find perfect hummus, superior kibbeh and superb gyros, not to mention one of the best spinach pies around. A top spot to eat for $10 or less.

Mynt
Understatedly elegant Indian joint brings standard curry house fare guised as haute cuisine to Hannibal Square. (The perfume of the tandoor oven scents the whole neighborhood.) Flavors work in such dishes as uttapham sliders, but fancy plating makes for impractical eating. There are plenty of options on the menu: creamy, subtly sweet lamb pasanda, flaky lacha paratha, and Cochin fish curry – a bowlful of rich, spicy comfort food.
