Adam Lister's pixelated paintings of pop-culture icons

Beacon, New York-based artist Adam Lister goes backward and forward and backward again: He converts pop-culture icons – superheroes, cult films, TV stars and Old Master paintings – into blocky 8-bit images; but the pixelated images aren't machine-generated; each chunky square is delicately hand-painted in washy colors as far removed from prototypical "computer imagery" as possible. Visit Lister's site for many more, including fantastic renditions of Ron Burgundy, Karl Lagerfeld and Yoda.
