Before the Supreme Court of the United States made its monumental decision on June 26 to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act, which blocked federal recognition for same-sex marriage, Orlando’s LGBT community and its allies had planned to hold Marriage Equality Rally at Lake Eola. That rally transformed into a tremendous celebration on Thursday night as hundreds of people dressed in red gathered to celebrate the decision and to prepare to battle the next big obstacle to marriage-equality in Florida: Amendment 2, which is our own statewide ban on same-sex marriage. These photos taken at the rally showcase the diversity, optimism and dedication of the support for marriage equality in our midst. Erin Sullivan
