According to a statement shared by Orlando Rep. Anna Eskamani, OUC says it has restored power to 65% of the 88,557 customers who were without power as of 8 a.m. Thursday.
As of 2 p.m. Friday, OUC says it has under 25,000 customers who remain without service.
“While we originally anticipated it would take 48 hours to complete our system-wide assessment, we are happy to report the assessment will be completed by the end of the day today,” the statement reads.
The company anticipates most of its customers’ power will be restored by midnight on Saturday, Oct. 12, with the entire region restored by midnight Sunday.
The commission released a statement early Thursday stating that customers may experience difficulty reporting outages due to the high number of outages in the area. OUC customers have widely run into issues when reporting outages since the storm hit and have seen discrepancies in OUC’s outage map and alert system.
“The Outage Map displays information from our Outage Management System (OMS) which is used to document and track outages. The system categorizes outages in a hierarchy from substations to feeder lines to lateral lines to customer premises. Once crews make a repair to a feeder, homes that receive power from that main distribution line are marked restored by the outage reporting system, despite additional restorative work still being needed on lower-level equipment like lateral lines, transformers or customer equipment like weather heads,” OUC says.
The outage map and alert system may display to all customers that power is restored despite some customers still being without it. For now, these customers need to re-report their outages.
The commission says it recognizes the confusion and have escalated the issue to the appropriate teams. Restoration efforts will continue into the night, OUC says.
