A mid-century modern Winter Haven home with ties to Florida’s architectural history is now on the market.
The home, located at 1540 N. Lake Mirror Drive, was built in 1967 for a local teacher named Thelma Lynne Guest, giving it its nickname, “The Guest House.” It was designed by famed Florida architect Gene Leedy, a prominent figure in the state’s modern architectural movement and a founder of the Sarasota School of Architecture.
The home is perched on Winter Haven’s Lake Mirror, and comes with three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a total 3,885 square feet of living space.
It also comes with a vintage elevator, a glass atrium, a fireplace, a heated swimming pool, and original glass window walls.
The main living spaces are surprisingly located on the second floor, allowing the home’s lakeside views to act as a focal point. The kitchen and primary bedroom overlook the pool, the Spanish moss-draped oak trees and the lake’s shoreline. Almost all of the bedrooms and living spaces on the second floor open onto covered balconies, according to the listing.
Some modernizations to the house include solar panels and upgraded appliances and lighting.
The home is currently for sale for $950,000 and the listing agents are Michael and Deanna Stone with the Stones Real Estate Firm.
