Get ready to rub shoulders with the orange-Croc’d wonder right here in Orlando when Publix Aprons Cooking School hosts A Culinary Journey With Mario Batali at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4.

Underestimate Batali at your peril – the shoes may be silly, but the man wearing them is a true lover of all things Italian, and his enthusiasm and expertise are infectious. At next week’s event, Batali will sign copies of his cookbook, give a talk while demo-cooking the evening’s menu, and then join guests as they chow it all down.

The meal, served buffet-style and including wine, includes beet salad with baby spinach and goat cheese; chilled pea and scallion soup; cheese tortellini with kale pesto; rigatoni with “My Grandma’s Sparerib Sauce”; shrimp stew from Puglia; chicken Scarpariello; carrots with cumin, honey and ancho chiles; creamy kale gratin; “My Carrot, Hazelnut and Ginger Cake”; and almond and honey brittle. Cost is $125 per person.
