Haunted Co., a Live Ghost Investigation starts off as a cheeky paranormal livestream for a popular YouTube show. However, it quickly spirals into something much more unsettling. Framed as a live-ghost hunting special, the production follows Ed and Liz (Andrew Sandoval and Lex Bentley) as they enter the stage armed with heavy equipment meant to catch some ghosts for human interaction and observation.
Directed by Andy Crisis, the production really leans into incorporating different types of multimedia elements (designed by Crisis and Julissa Garcia Casiano) throughout the show. There’s a lot of pre-recorded content played on a screen for audience engagement and some contextual elements. The sound elements are particularly well-done in cohesion with the visual elements. While hilarious in the beginning, the footage does end up getting hijacked by the ghosts. Even as an avid horror movie enthusiast myself, I got some goosebumps. When the ghosts (Adam Link and Layla Moradkhanian) do eventually come out, be warned that their scary appearance is not for the faint of heart at all; bravo to the makeup and costuming for all the realism.
The production is directed and performed by theme park actors, so they definitely know how to scare people. Beyond this, Haunted Co. carries a strong message about pushing too far in the name of curiosity and control. It’s funny, spooky and serious when it needs to be. This is a great show pick for Fringe-goers who love the rush of a little adrenaline.
