Universal Orlando announced in June the rock & roll-themed roller coaster would be shut down this summer, just before its 16th anniversary, to make way for an unnamed new attraction.
The attraction’s last day will be Monday, Aug. 18.
Universal says more details about the new project will be available at a later date.
Rip Ride Rockit first opened to the public in August 2009, featuring a 90-degree climb and speeds reaching up to 65 mph all while riders enjoyed a song of their choosing.
The coaster was once known for offering dozens of songs sorted into five different genres, plus dozens of secret songs (featuring the Muppets, Megadeth and more). That is, until the ride was updated in 2023 to offer just five songs, a selection ripped to shreds from the original 30-plus list.
The updated list offered just one song representing each of the five genres: country, pop/disco, classic rock/metal, rap/hip-hop and club/electronica: “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” by Shania Twain, “Waterloo” by ABBA, “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance, “Humble” by Kendrick Lamar and “Sandstorm” by Darude.
Universal at the time said the new update was meant to “simplify the selection experience.” Might have been a bit of a bad omen.
