The whole area still has a decidedly "under construction" feel. But after taking a stroll beside the numerous construction walls at the park, part of a larger revamp of Epcot, the gigantic Nova Starblaster ship welcomes guests to the "Wonders of Xandar" pavilion.
The attraction starts off with a trip to the Galaxarium to learn some of the history and unique technology of Xandar, a key planet in the Guardians of the Galaxy story. Without spoiling much, one important piece of tech gets stolen. It is now up to the “Epcot Terrans" and the Guardians to help get it back.
The ride boasts the first reverse launch on a coaster in Walt Disney World’s history and guests can rotate 360 degrees in their carts. It is also one of the longest enclosed coasters in the world. Staying true to the mixtape theme of Guardians movies, the soundtrack is stuffed with '80s classics like “Everybody wants to Rule the World” and “Conga”.
Overall, this is a family-friendly coaster, playing a bit like Space Mountain’s smoother cousin. It marks Disney's first Marvel attraction on the east coast.
This pavilion hosts a new attraction and a gift shop that has not opened yet. Merch heads and Figment lovers can find ride trinkets at Epcot's flagship store, Creations.
All in all, this out-of-this-world addition to EPCOT is a treat to the park as it continues to go through a massive transition.
