On Saturday, it's a rock benefit; on Sunday, the show goes country: This weekend's Pet Rocks Concert at Seminole Greyhound Park, a two-day benefit for the ailing Seminole County Humane Society (still recovering from a 1993 fire), could be seen as a competition between animal lovers, with organizers expecting a bigger turnout by the country fans.
Both days feature national headliners in the lineup, including Modern English and The Fabulous Thunderbirds (Saturday), and Tracy Byrd and Wade Hayes (Sunday). But smartly festival organizer Terry McMahon of Forbidden Records (also a member of Real Cool Traders) wanted to involve local bands, "because most of them have really deep followings."
So Forest Orange, The Alleys, Buck 32, and Joseph Graye and the Average Joe Band are among the local bands rallying Saturday. And country-tinged acts Jill Towers, Audra Jost, Neon Blue and Wendy Benson add to Sunday's all-day flow.
