In what is probably the best example of Florida’s ridiculous housing market, an abandoned home with gaping holes and rooms full of odd collectibles is currently on priced at a half-million dollars.
Located at 823 NE 96th St. in Miami Shores, the 1,834-square-foot, three-bedroom abode was listed for $650,000 three months ago, and despite being in visible disrepair, it’s currently under contract after multiple offers.
“Due to where it is located, I’m not surprised [it received offers]. It’s a beautiful neighborhood, it’s highly desirable, has great schools and is in a great location, so I wasn’t so shocked,” said listing agent Tamika Moses, of Robin Bird Realty, to CBS News.
Moses added that the owner recently passed away, and the home sat vacant for at least a year. “As you can see, he was a collector of many great things, and it’s unfortunate that the house fell into disarray,” she said .
Built in 1950, the home features three bedrooms and two bathrooms and sits on a .26-acre lot.
As you can see in the photos, the home also comes with part of a roof, a kitchen with a wall full of jack-o-lantern buckets, a Jack Skellington toilet, and a whole library of ruined books.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the median home value in the area is $590,100. But the home is arguably a great example of Florida’s hyper-competitive house market. With high demand still fueling a chronically low inventory, Miami’s median home prices rose 5.2 percent in the first quarter compared to last year.
