Monday made for an ethereal night of homecomings and swooning sounds at Will’s Pub wihen ghostly balladeer Sean Nicholas Savage was joined by Lulannie and Nicole Miglis.
Opener Miglis is a familiar face to Orlando music fans. As part of Hundred Waters, she played a number of big shows in years past. Now, out on her own, she played a set of gorgeous dream-pop symphonies — even pulling out (and redeeming) a flute at points.
Lulannie, the music project of former Orlandoan Jennifer Medina, came next. This newer creative outlet for Medina held its own with dubby, dark-ambient dance music that was just on the right side of foreboding.
Sean Nicholas Savage closed out the night, alone on stage and lit only by one orange-red light that matched the torchy undercurrent to his songs. Savage is a consummate showman, crossing Broadway with Scott Walker and submerging the result in an ocean of reverb. Savage played one of those sets that had us starting the show at the back of the room and ending it right up front to catch his final, keening notes.
