Photos: Kacey Musgraves headlined a celestial night of sound and vision at Orlando’s Kia Center

The usual monotony of a post-holiday Monday became a night of rootsy transcendence when Kasey Musgraves brought her “Deeper Well” tour to Orlando’s Kia Center.

Nickel Creek opened the night, warming up the crowd with their freewheeling grooves and stellar musicianship. Musgraves sat in with the band for a cover of SZA’s “Kill Bill,” introducing it as a “grisly murderous tale of love gone wrong.”

Next up was Lord Huron, who presented a suite of lush songs — all goosebump-inducing tumbleweed jams.

Finally it was time for Musgraves to take the stage — and she did in grand style, through a portal doorway to the chiming chords of Deeper Well’s “Cardinal.” And soon enough, she slipped the bonds of earth and levitated celestially into the clouds above the stage.

Feet planted back on stage, Musgraves put on a 90-minute show that was gorgeous musically and visually. The production was state-of-the-art: staging, video production and lighting dazzled the audience. As did Musgraves’ voice, buoyed aloft by her crack backing band through a set of new songs and familiar hits.

Musgraves even shouted out Dole Whip when enthusing about the touring party’s day spent at the theme parks.

Beyond the local love, the highlight was Musgraves walking through the crowd to arrive at a smaller green stage, where she played a number of intimate acoustic numbers.

This was one to remember.
