Photos: Bob Mould went solo at The Social and electrified the crowd

Bob Mould — of Hüsker Dü and Sugar — took the stage at The Social in high spirits. Earlier in the day, he had seen the Come Out With Pride parade surging past The Social during soundcheck, and as an out-and-proud gay man it gave him all the feels.

Between songs, Mould dispensed with the usual chit-chat banter and talked openly about gay rights, his own married life in San Francisco, and politics personal and otherwise. (Did he call the governor a delightfully naughty name? You had to be there!)

Shockingly, Mould hasn’t played a full show in Orlando since the mid-1980s (and, yes, Jim Leatherman was at that one too). But he made up for lost time with a career-spanning set that took in Hüsker Dü, Sugar and his solo albums. Highlights included the Dü’s “Makes No Sense at All,” “Flip Your Wig” and “Something I Learned Today,” with Sugar’s “If I Can’t Change Your Mind” coming in hot too. Solo tunes like “Black Confetti” and “The Descent” more than held their own.
