David Dhawan ‘ India’s king of broad romantic farces ‘ has for the first time teamed his two most dependable stars in the same film. Partner is an amped-up remake of Hitch, with a generally shirtless Salman Khan taking the role of Prem, a “love guru” who reluctantly takes on the challenge of helping the spazzy Bhaskar (Govinda) get the girl of his dreams (Katrina Kaif). Dhawan expends more energy and celluloid focusing on Bhaskar’s efforts to get Prem to take his “case” than on the wooing of the beautiful girl. The obstacles that the “love guru” faces when attempting a relationship with a journalist (Lara Dutta) end up being more challenging. But, if you’ve seen Hitch, you knew all that. What Partner offers beyond that Will Smith vehicle is a series of high-energy song-and-dance numbers (featuring some awful hip-hop posing), preposterous side-plots and plenty of snappy dialogue.
