Neighborhood mainstay College Park Café has announced a reopening date and a name change, rebounding from a disastrous Christmas Eve fire.

The diner at 2304 Edgewater Drive, which has been slinging the metaphorical hash to College Park denizens in one form or another since the 1950s, was the site of an after-hours grease fire on Dec. 24, resulting in total closure over the holidays.

Owners Alan Saunders and Joey Eckenfel announced via social media this week that the diner would be back in business within days, and that a name change was in order. So the doors will be (re)opening for College Park Diner next week, with a revamped kitchen.

In the meantime though, there is a GoFundMe campaign to keep staff paid during the closure, and some mornings employees are even out front of the Café serving up coffee. So keep your eyes on their social media regarding the latter.

College Park Ca … sorry, Diner opens for business on Saturday, Jan. 10.
