The fifth installment of drag-focused but genre-curious queer arts collision Volume went down a storm at Will’s Pub on Sunday night. Subtitled both “Black Celebration” and “Stripped,” the night was a twin tribute to synth-pop icons Depeche Mode and Volume founder Davi Oddity (it was their birthday at midnight).
Performers La Bemba Gringa, Bobby Oddity, Davi Oddity, Adi Love, Pristine Filth, Vanity A’loura, Lady Brii Adonis and Leggy Strangelove reinterpreted Depeche Mode hits that we’ll never hear the same way again and drove the crowd into an absolute frenzy. Between sets, DJ Pup Rocky spun only DM deep cuts and Jacksonville’s Glass Chapel got dour and life-affirming all at once. By then, we were all believers anyway.
